The 57-acre first phase of The Domain opened in March 2007. Since then The Domain has become a "second downtown" for Austin with a wealth of commercial and residential space opening over the past few years. When complete, The Domain will offer nearly 2 million square feet of retail, dining and entertainment, 3.5 million square feet of office space, 4,500 residential units, and three hotels.
According to The Domain's website, Green Urbanism is a high priority, and going green extends to the landscaping. More than two dozen large live oak trees will be relocated on the site, while preserving hundreds of others. Plans provide generous native vegetation, preservation of green space, and comfortably shaded outdoor gathering places-including more than ten acres of parks.
